Friends of Youth provides a continuum of mentoring services to meet the needs of our young people.
Special Friends Mentoring matches 8-29-year-old intellectually and/or
physically disabled individuals with trained mentors. These matches seek to spend at least one hour per week together. Many of these matches have turned into long-term friendships as the years have passed. The mentoring time reduces social isolation, builds confidence, and community connection for mentees.
Best Friends Mentoring matches 6-17-year-old mentees in need of guidance with
trained mentors. Mentors seek to connect with youth weekly and spend at least one hour engaged in fun activities. This connection gives youth an opportunity to explore their interests with a caring and responsible adult who models acceptable social behaviors for them.
SEMSAY mentoring programs match youth aged 6-17 from addiction-affected families with trained mentors. Family risks and needs are assessed to determine the level of care necessary.
Enhanced Mentoring is the lower level of care, providing trauma-informed guidance and
mentorship to youth who have been affected by family substance misuse. These matches seek to meet for at least one hour per week. Volunteers provide mentoring support.
Intensive Mentoring is the higher level of care, providing mentoring, skill building,
transportation, and case management for DSS- and DJJ-involved youth. These matches seek to spend at least three hours per week quality time that models necessary life skills for the mentees. Intensive Mentoring is provided by trained staff.
