Juveniles aged 12-18 can be screened with the Substance Abuse Subtle Screening Inventory for likelihood of substance use disorder. This screening is requested for youth who are suspected or caught with illicit substances. Results of the screening determine placement in clinical services or prevention education classes.
Prime for Life (P4L) is a group substance use prevention education class held at SFoY's offices. The curriculum prescribes 2 hours per week for 20 weeks with the goal of helping youth at risk of substance use disorder make informed choices to benefit their health and long-term substance use behaviors. Staff are certified in curricula administration. Youth who score negative for substance use disorder but whose behaviors and symptoms indicate habitual use or excessive experimentation are referred to P4L.
When a juvenile scores high-risk on the SASSI, they are offered a free clinical assessment by our on-staff Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor-Registered. This CADC-R is supervised clinically by a local Certified Clinical Supervisor. Together, the clinical determination of whether a juvenile's behaviors/symptoms meet diagnostic criteria for substance use disorder is reached.
Prime Solutions is an evidence-based treatment curriculum for substance use disorder. This is provided in individual or group formats, according to client needs by staff certified and licensed to provide clinical treatment.
