Kids who act aggressively, exhibit poor coping skills, emotional dysregulation, and disruptive classroom behavior benefit from anger management classes designed to teach nonviolent conflict resolution skills. Peaceful Alternatives to Tough Situations (PATTS) is our curriculum of choice. It is taught by trained staff in 10 one-hour sessions. The small group format allows practice of these skills in a supervised peer setting. Parent involvement is encouraged so that skills can be practiced in the family setting to reduce conflict at home.
Teens who are repeat offenders of aggressive behavior may be referred to this more intensive level of youth violence prevention. ART is a 10-week curriculum that is hosted 3 times per week for one hour at each session. Concepts taught are nonviolent coping skills, decision-making, thinking through one's actions, moral reasoning for making choices, and consequences of our actions. ART is held in small groups, and practicing the concepts is critical to the integrity of the curriculum.
